Winky Wright lost to WBO Welterweight Champion Paul Williams (37-1-0, 27 KOs) by 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scores were 108-120, 109-119 and 109-119. The fight ended a 21 month layoff for Wright. But it was not ring rust that caused Wright to lose, it was Williams height and reach advantage coupled with his high punch output and awkward style which gave counter puncher Wright problems.
