Vonda Ward aka the All-American Girl fought and beat cruiserweight champion Carlette "The Truth" Ewell (12-6-0, 9 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision in a non-title fight on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Chapperalls Community Center in Akron, Ohio. The judges scores were100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 for Ward.
Ward beat Martha Salazar (11-4-0, 3 KOs) by 10-round majority decision on February 10, 2007 in Cleveland, Ohio becoming the new WBC heavyweight champion. Ward had previously beaten Salazar twice in 2003. Ward had a 9" height and 9" reach advantage over Salazar who out weighted Ward by 48 lbs. The end of the trilogy saw Ward able to keep Salazar on the outside with her trademark jab.

Vonda "All-American Girl" Ward
Vonda Ward, 6'6" and strikingly fit is a former NCAA basketball star and pro basketball player for the Colorado Xplosions. In 2000 Ward turned professional boxer knocking out her first opponent in round one of her pro debut. Ward, having won the IBA heavyweight title and 17 out of her 22 fights by knockout has only been defeated once and that was at the hands of tested female boxer, Ann Wolfe. Vonda Ward, IBA heavyweight champion was knocked out cold on the canvas in round one by an overhand right thrown by Wolfe that caught Ward squarely on the chin. A TV announcer declared it the best single punch he'd ever seen in womens boxing.

Ward returned to the ring in 2004, seven months after she was KOd by Ann Wolfe and KOd her next opponent, veteran female boxer Marsha Valley knocking her down twice in the 4th round. Ward, IBA heavyweight champion has remained undefeated since 2004.
