Strikeforce put on their first mixed martial arts show outside California on February 23rd in Washington state. The Pacific Northwest event took place at the Tacoma Dome Arena which is the second largest wood domed structure in the world measuring 152 ft high. Robert Malcolm Sapp aka Bob "The Beast" Sapp who was a standout offensive lineman at the University of Washington was on the card. The show drew 7,089 people and produced a live gate of $283,000 setting a record in Washington state for combat sports.
Strikeforce has become the most successful of all non UFC MMA promotions which in part is due to headling fighters Cung Le and Frank Shamrock. Le, with his flashy kicks and great striking skills and Shamrock, a former UFC champion and legendary submission fighter are big draws. Promoters predict Strikeforce will have the first non UFC million dollar live gate in North America.

Strikeforce
Strikeforce made history on March 10, 2006 as the first mixed martial arts event sanctioned by the state of California. The main event was legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie. It was held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. 18,265 fans attended setting the record for the largest-ever attendance at a mixed martial arts fight card held in United States.
Strikeforce promoted by American K-1 promoter Scott Coker and the operators of HP Pavilion hold their mixed martial arts cage fights and Strikeforce Fighting Championships at the Shark Tank in San Jose. Strikeforce plans to use the tournament format moving forward. A four man tournament determines who gets a title shot against the biggest name on the Strikeforce fighter roster. Lightweight, middleweight and heavyweight title tournaments are expected to take place in 2008.
