Boxing at Staples Center began on Saturday, June 17, 2000 with the first fightcard promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank headlining Oscar De La Hoya vs Shane Mosley in a WBC/IBA Welterweight Title fight. It was soldout crowd of 20,000.

Staples Center continues to host mega fights with a record breaking crowd of 20,820 people attending the Antonio Margarito vs Shane Mosley WBA Welterweight Title fight on Saturday, January 24, 2009. The largest crowd ever to see a sporting event at the Staples Center.
