Shannon Briggs lost by 12-round unanimous decision to Vitali Klitschko (41-2-0, 38 KOs) on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the O2 World Arena in Altona, Hamburg, Germany. Scores were 107-120, 107-120 and 105-120. Briggs displayed a granite chin never going down despite being hit by some big right hands. After the fight Briggs said that Vitali hits harder than George Foreman. Briggs did manage to get in some good counter punches and nailed Vitali with a couple of right hands in round five and eleven. But overall Briggs took a punishing from Klitschko yet remained standing until the final bell. Briggs was hospitalized after the fight with a concussion, orbital fractures, broken nose and a torn bicep which will require surgery.

Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs
Shannon Briggs most notable fights were his controversial 12-round majority decision win over the former heavyweight champion George Forman on November 22, 1997 and his loss to Lennox Lewis by 5th round TKO months later on March 28, 1998.
On Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, with 1 second left Shannon Briggs beat Sergei Liakhovich by 12th round TKO. Liakhovich was down twice in round twelve. The second time Liakhovich was knocked out of the ring landing on top of the scorers table just like Hasim Rahman was when Oleg Maskaev knocked him out of the ring.
Briggs 12-bout winning streak came to an end as he lost his WBO heavyweight title and belt to Sultan Ibragimov by 12th round unanimous decision on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Boardwall Hall in Atlantic City. Briggs, known for his career peaks and valleys in boxing had won the WBO heavyweight championship by TKO at 2:59 in the 12th round by knocking heavyweight Serguei Lyakhovich clear out of the ring.
On Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom in New York, Shannon Briggs fought Marcus McGee winning the bout by 1st round KO. Briggs dropped McGee for the count of ten with a right to the body at 2:01 of round. The result was later changed by the New York State Athletic Commission to no-contest when Briggs tested positive for an illegal substance. Briggs takes medication for asthma which may have caused the positive drug test. In addition to the results being changed the commission also suspended Briggs for 90 days.
Shannon Briggs beat Rafael Pedro (20-8-1, 14 KOs) by knockout at 00:28 of round one on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. The fight card dubbed Rise of the Heavyweights was promoted by Henry Rivalta of The Heavyweight Factory. This was Briggs second win in a row after over a two year layoff. Rafael Pedro has now lost four fights in a row. Pedro had fought Eric "Butterbean" Ecsh in a 4 round exhibition fight on May 29, 2004 in Panama City, Florida. The rounds were only 2 minutes long and they wore head gear and 12 oz gloves.
Briggs beat Rob Calloway (70-12-2, 57 KOs) by 1st round TKO in a heavyweight bout on Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. Calloway was down three times in round one. This makes four 1st round knockouts in a row for Briggs in his latest fights; Rob Calloway at 1:38, Dominique Alexander at 0:20, Rafael Pedro at 0:28 and Marcus McGee at 2:01.
