Samuel Peter lost by 10th round KO to Wladimir Klitschko (55-3-0, 49 KOs) on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Hessen, Germany. Giving up 5 inches in height and 4 inches in reach Peter was kept at bay by Klitschko's long pawing jab and right hand. At 1:22 of round ten the bout was stopped with Peter flat on his back on the canvas after being downed by a barrage of punches. Peter was Klitschko's IBF heavyweight mandatory challenger. This was Peter's second loss to Wladimir. In their first fight in September 2005, Wladimir was down twice in round five and once in round ten.

Samuel Peter, was a member of Nigerian 2000 Olympic Games team. He is known for his punching power, relentless aggression, and tendency to hit opponents on the back of the head.
Ringside Los Angeles: On Saturday, September 2, 2006 Samuel Peter beat James Toney by a 12-round split decision at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Peter's heavy hits impressed the judges more than Toney's counter punches. Most of the crowd including myself thought Toney did enough to win.
In front of a sellout crowd of 5,238 people at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday, January 6, 2007, Samuel Peter beat James Toney by 12-round unanimous decision in the highly anticipated rematch ordered by the WBC. Winning the bout, which was a WBC heavyweight title eliminator puts Peter in line for a title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev. In addition to his victory Peter successfully defended his NABF heavyweight title.
Samuel Peter beat Jameel McCline by 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Madison Square Garden in New York City winning the interim WBC heavyweight title. Late sub McCline downed Peter at the end of round two and floored him again two more times in round three and let him get away. It was not so much that Peter got up after the knockdowns that won him the fight as it was that McCline stopped fighting and lost. McCline blew the biggest chance of his career by his refusal to let his hands go to get Peter out of there.

On Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico, Samuel Peter beat Oleg Maskaev by 6th round TKO claiming the WBC heavyweight title. Peter rocked and wobbled Maskaev in rounds three and five before pounding and falling him into the ropes in round six.
Samuel Peter retired on his stool losing to Vitali Klitschko (36-2-0, 35 KOs) by 8th round TKO on Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Berlin, Germany at the new O2 World Arena. From the first round Peter was kept a bay by Klitschko's long left jab and hit repeatedly by big rights. Scores announced by the WBC's open scoring had Peter losing every round at the end of four. After round eight in which Peter had been staggered numerous times by Klitschko's heavy blows a frustrated and beaten Peter remained on his stool not coming out for round nine losing his WBC heavyweight title. Peter has now lost to both Klitschko brothers having lost a title fight to Wladimir Klitschko in 2005.
Peter lost by 10-round majority decision to Eddie Chambers (34-1-0, 18 KOs) on Saturday, March 27, 2009 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Scores were 95-95, 94-96 and 91-99. Chambers outlanded Peter who came in at 265 pounds, the heaviest of his career.
Samuel Peter beat Gabe "Big G" Brown (18-13-4, 12 KOs) by 4th round TKO on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Peter knocked down Big G in the 4th round. Big G got up and threw a bolo punch at Peter who then jumped on Brown. Referee Randy Jarvis called a halt to the bout at 2:58.
Peter defeated Dominican heavyweight Nagy Aguilera (15-3-0, 10 KOs) by 2nd round TKO in an IBF heavyweight title eliminator fight on Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, Texas. Peter who came in at 237 pounds, his lightest weight in years dropped Aguilera with a right then followed up with a barrage of punches promoting the referee to stop the fight at 2:24 of round two. The fight card promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank and televised live on Fox Sports took place on the eve before the Pacquiao-Clottey fight.
