Rocky Juarez Tickets

It's rumored that Rocky Juarez is scheduled to fight undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0-0, 16 KOs) in a 12-round lightweight fight on HBO on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Juarez is coming off a controversial UD loss to Vicente Escobedo this past September which all be the judges that he won. Gamboa vs Juarez might take place at a catch weight of 133 lbs since Gamboa is moving up in weight for the fight. Over the past couple of years Juarez has bounced back and forth fighting at super featherweight and lightweight. Both fighters have power. It is not known if Gamboa can bring his power up to the lightweight division. A win for Juarez over Gamboa could save Juarez's career.

Ricardo "Rocky" Juarez

Rocky Juarez was a member of the 2000 US Olympic team winning a silver medal as a featherweight. His notable fights include a 10th round KO of Antonio "Chelo" Diaz on July 19, 2003 at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas. The Ring declared it the 2003 Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year.

Ringside Los Angeles: On May 20, 2006 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Rocky Juarez was in another notable fight. Juarez fought and lost to Marco Antonio Barrera by split decision in round 12 of 12. Originally the fight was declared a draw. Fifteen minutes later it was announced that the scores had been added incorrectly. Judge Ken Morita's scorecard showed a 114-114 draw but it was actually 115-114 for Barrera thus giving him the split decision victory. Rocky Juarez was already in his dressing room when he was informed that he had actually lost the fight.

In a rematch on September 16, 2006 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Rocky Juarez lost to Marco Antonio Barrera by a 12 round unanimous decision. The legendary Barrera controlled Juarez with his jab throughout the fight.

Rocky Juarez cut over his left eye from an accidental head butt in round one was dominated and beaten by Juan Manuel Marquez in a 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona. Post fight, Juarez asking for a rematch complained that the cut that bled throughout the entire bout affected his vision however Marquez wants Pacquiao as his next opponent. The Marquez-Juarez fight was the fourth time Rocky has tried and failed to capture a world title. The first time was against Humberto Soto, the second and third were against Marco Antonion Barrera.

Juarez beat Jorge Rodrigo Barrios (47-3-1, 34 KOs) by 11th round TKO on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. After being outboxed most of the fight Juarez dropped Barrios in round eleven and the fight was stopped due to a cut on Barrios' lip. Juarez took home the vacant WBO Latino super featherweight title in addition to his TKO victory.

Rocky Juarez fought to a draw against WBA Featherweight Champion Chris John (42-0-2, 22 KOs) of Indonesia on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It was one of Juarez's best performances. He came on strong in the last two rounds turning the fight into a draw. Scores were 114-114, 114-114 and 114-114.

Juarez lost his rematch with Chris John (43-0-2, 22 KOs) by 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scores were 109-119, 111-117 and 113-114. The fight took place on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Juan Manuel Marquez. John retained his WBA super world featherweight title.

Rocky Juarez lost by 7th round technical decision to Jason Litzau (27-2-0, 21 KOs) on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Litzau suffered a left eye injury from an accidental headbutt and could not continue. Scores were 66-67, 66-67 and 65-68. Litzau was ahead on the score cards at the time of stoppage.

On Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, Rocky Juarez lost to Jorge Linares (29-1-0, 18 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision in a WBA Fedelatin lightweight title fight . Scores were 90-99, 90-99 and 92-97. Juarez was dropped in the final seconds of round five from an uppercut. Linares vs Juarez took place on the undercard of Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz and was televised live on HBO PPV. Juarez was coming off a loss to Jason Litzau and Linares was coming off win over Francisco Lorenzo.

Rocky Juarez lost by 10-round unanimous decision to 2004 US Olympian Vicente Escobedo (24-3-0, 14 KOs) in a super featherweight bout on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Scores were 93-96, 92-97 and 91-98. Although Rocky lost on the scorecards the crowd thought otherwise as indicated by their booing when the judges scores were read. It was a much closer fight than the judges scores showed. In round three Rocky briefly visited the canvas from an Escobedo jab and that knockdown made the difference. The fight was that close. Escobedo took the first half of the fight and Rocky took the second. Escobedo was the busier fighter but Rocky was the harder puncher. Rocky knew in order to win the fight he was going to have to knock Escobedo out since he was on Escobedo's turf but that didn't happen.
