Ricardo Mayorga lost by 12th round TKO to three time world champion Miguel Cotto (36-2-0, 29 KOs) in a WBA Super World light middleweight title fight on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was an exciting fight with Mayorga throwing wild overhand rights and begging Cotto to come to in and exchange. The 7th round saw Mayorga landing some vicious shots. In the 9th round Mayorga got in some good combinations and hurt Cotto. During the 12th round Cotto nailed Mayorga good with a left but during the exchange Mayorga's left thumb was injured, he took a knee but elected to keep fighting. Seconds later Mayorga told the referee he could not continue.

De La Hoya caught Mayorga with a left hook followed by a right cross to the jaw. Mayorga rose but De La Hoya unloaded on him causing Referee Jay Nady to stop the fight.

Vargas-Mayorga Prefight Rumble

Vargas and Mayorga get a headstart on their slugfest at a press conference formally announcing their fight on August 10, 2007. Mayorga ended up with a cut over his left eye and a bloody lip, Vargas a cut on his hand.

Ricardo Mayorga the beer drinking, Marlboro smoking brawler fought his best fight in years sending Fernando Vargas (26-5-0, 22 KOs) into retirement with a 12-round majority decision victory at the Staples Center in LA. Mayorga dropped Vargas late in round one, put him back on his heels in round two and dropped him again at the end of round eleven. Scores were 113-113, 114-112 and 115-111. Mayorga took home the WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title in addition to the win.

Mayorga lost by 12th round knockout to Shane Mosley (29-6-1, 23 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Fighting at light middleweight Mayorga took the first three rounds then in round four Mosley found his groove. Mosley sent Mayorga to the canvas twice in round twelve knocking him out at 2:59.

On Friday, December 17, 2010 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida, Ricardo Mayorga beat Michael Walker (19-6-2, 12 KOs) by 9th round TKO in a middleweight fight. After losing 2 points for hitting Walker when he was on a knee Mayorga would not be deterred. Although rusty after not fighting since his loss to Shane Mosley in September 2008 once Walker was up Mayorga unleased on him prompting the referee to stop the fight at 1:09 of round nine. Walker has now lost 6 of his last 7 fights including losses to Andy Lee and Daniel Jacobs.
