Ricardo Mayorga lost by 12th round knockout to Shane Mosley (29-6-1, 23 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Fighting at light middleweight Mayorga took the first three rounds then in round four Mosley found his groove. Mosley sent Mayorga to the canvas twice in round twelve knocking him out at 2:59.

Ringside Las Vegas: On May 06, 2007 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena trash talking Ricardo Mayorga got silenced by Oscar De La Hoya by way of a 6th round TKO. De La Hoya caught Mayorga with a left hook followed by a right cross to the jaw. Mayorga rose but De La Hoya unloaded on him causing Referee Jay Nady to stop the fight.

Vargas and Mayorga get a headstart on their slugfest at a press conference formally announcing their fight on August 10, 2007. Mayorga ended up with a cut over his left eye and a bloody lip, Vargas a cut on his hand.
Ricardo Mayorga the beer drinking, Marlboro smoking brawler fought his best fight in years sending Fernando Vargas (26-5-0, 22 KOs) into retirement with a 12-round majority decision victory at the Staples Center in LA. Mayorga dropped Vargas late in round one, put him back on his heels in round two and dropped him again at the end of round eleven. Scores were 113-113, 114-112 and 115-111. Mayorga took home the WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title in addition to the win.
