Plaza Hotel and Casino located at the west end of the Fremont Street Experience is one of the oldest Las Vegas casinos that still exists. Originally named the Union Plaza, the Plaza Hotel and Casino opened on July 2, 1971 on the site where the first train depot, the Union Pacific railroad station once stood.
From 2000 to 2005 the Plaza Hotel and Casino hosted fight cards several times a year promoted by various boxing promoters including Don King of Don King Productions, Bob Arum of Top Rank and Joel Berman of JBC Boxing.
Boxing at the Plaza returned on January 23, 2009 as sons of legendary boxing referee Mills Lane, Terry and Tommy of "Let's Get It On" Promotions and Chet Koerner of TKO Boxing Promotions co-promote the first of a series of fight cards at the Plaza in Downtown Las Vegas.
