The Palace of Auburn Hills also known as The Palace opened in 1988. Home of the NBA Detroit Pistons and WNBA Detroit Shock it's the largest arena in the NBA and one of the oldest. Since 1989 The Palace has been named the Arena of the Year eight times. In addition to holding basketball games and concerts The Palace's center stage seating capacity of approximately 24,276 and its suburban location has made it a popular venue for boxing.

Detroit based Joseph Donofrio of Donofrio Boxing Promotions wanting to reverse the declining trend of boxing in Detroit frequently promotes fights featuring local boxers at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Additionally the legendary Emanuel Steward, founder of Kronk Gym puts on Kronk Fight Nights at Joe Louis Arena or The Palace showcasing Kronk's up and coming boxing stars. »

On September 10, 1988 The Palace of Auburn Hills hosted its first fight card headlining "Big" George Foreman. Since then its been the site of almost a hundred professional boxing matches. Motor City Oba Carr, Michael Moorer, Gerald McClellan and Chris Byrd are just some of the fighters who have fought on fight night at The Palace. Not to be confused with the notorious fight involving members of the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers basketball teams and fans that took place at The Palace of Auburn Hills on November 19, 2004.
