Oleg "The Big O" Maskaev
Maskaev KOs Rahman
On November 16, 1999 at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, Oleg Maskaev beat Hasim Rahman by an 8th round KO. Maskaev knocked Rahman through the ropes, onto the announcers table with Rahman ending up on the floor. The fight was given Honorable Mention by Ring Magazine as "Knockout of the Year".
Oleg Maskaev had fallen out of the top ranks in 2002 after he suffered knockout losses to Kirk Johnson, Lance Whitaker, and Corey Sanders. Since then Maskaev has won all 10 fights he has fought. In his latest win on November 12, 2005 in Germany, Maskaev took the WBC international heavyweight title in a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Turkish, Sinan Samil Sam. This victory put Maskaev in line to fight the winner of the James Toney - Hasim Rahman fight. Since that fight ended in a draw Rahman retained his title and must now face Maskaev for a second time.
Maskaev won the WBC world heavyweight championship from Hasim Rahman with a 12th round KO on August 12, 2006 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Maskaev completed the European sweep of the heavyweight titles, joining WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev, WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich and IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Maskaev plans to fight again in December in Moscow.
