Oleg Maskaev lost by 1st round TKO to Dominican Nagy Aguilera (15-2-0, 10 KOs) on Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento, California. Maskaev was knocked down in round one by a right hand left hook combination and beat the count. Aguilera then cornered Maskaev who was on shaky legs and pounded him with unanswered combinations until referee Lou Moret jumped in and stopped the fight.

Maskaev KOs Rahman
On November 16, 1999 at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, Oleg Maskaev beat Hasim Rahman by an 8th round KO. Maskaev knocked Rahman through the ropes, onto the announcers table with Rahman ending up on the floor. The fight was given Honorable Mention by Ring Magazine as "Knockout of the Year".
Oleg Maskaev had fallen out of the top ranks in 2002 after he suffered knockout losses to Kirk Johnson, Lance Whitaker, and Corey Sanders. Since then Maskaev has won all 10 fights he has fought. In his latest win on November 12, 2005 in Germany, Maskaev took the WBC international heavyweight title in a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Turkish, Sinan Samil Sam. This victory put Maskaev in line to fight the winner of the Toney-Rahman fight. Since that fight ended in a draw Rahman retained his title and must now face Maskaev for a second time.
Maskaev won the WBC world heavyweight championship from Hasim Rahman with a 12th round KO on August 12, 2006 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Maskaev completed the European sweep of the heavyweight titles, joining WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev, WBO heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich and IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Maskaev plans to fight again in December in Moscow.
Oleg Maskaev lost his fight and WBC heavyweight title to Samuel Peter on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico by 6th round TKO. A right hand from Peter had Maskaev reeling on the ropes. Referee Guadelupe Garcia stepped in and stopped the fight at 2:56 of round six as Maskaev was getting hit with a follow up of punches. In Mashaev's previous fight on December 10, 2006 at the Olympiysky Sports Arena in Moscow, Russia, Maskaev with his dangerous right hand punches had beat Peter Okhello by a 12-round unanimous decision.
Maskaev fighting in the Red Square in Moscow, Russia on Saturday, September 6, 2008 beat American journeyman Robert Hawkins (23-12-0, 7 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision. The scores were 100-92, 100-90 and 100-90. Maskaev was coming off a TKO loss to Samuel Peter in March 2008. Prior to that bout Maskaev had not fought since December 2006.
Trying to rid himself of ring rust before challenging one of the reigning world heavyweight champions Maskaev fought and beat Rich Boruff (17-3-1, 10 KOs) by 1st round KO on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Ice Palace in Saransk, Russia.
