Martha Salazar lost by a 10-round majority decision to Vonda Ward on February 10, 2007 in Cleveland, Ohio. Salazar suffered two previous losses to Ward, one by split decision and one by unanimous decision. Salazar, who had won her last five fights hits as hard as a guy but Ward's 9" height and 9" reach advantage made it hard for Salazar to get inside to land her heavy punches.

Salazar has set many boxing records for Hispanics. She is the first Hispanic woman heavyweight to hold three world titles at once, second Hispanic in women's boxing history and third Hispanic to become a world heavyweight champion.
