Kermit Cintron lost by TKO at 2:53 of round five in a WBC light middleweight title fight to Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KOs) on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, Mexico. Cintron using his jab was the busier fighter in rounds one to three but Alvarez was the heavier handed. In round four Alvarez hurt Cintron with a right hand. Cintron took a knee in the corner. He got up beating the count but his legs were't under him. At the end of the round Alvarez hit Cintron with an overhand right rocking him badly and cutting Cintron on the bridge of his nose. Cintron partially held up by the ropes remained on his feet but barely made it back to his corner. He came out punching in round five like the Cintron we knew in his better days but he also looked off balance and out of it and his aggressive attack didn't last long. Alvarez nailed him with a hard one two combination which prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight even though Cintron was throwing back.

Kermit "The Killer" Cintron
Kermit Cintron's first loss came on April 23, 2005 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada by way of the most feared fighter, Antonio Margarito. Cintron was cut over his eye in round 3, knocked down twice in round 4 and round 5 before his trainer climbed up on the ring apron and the referee waved off the fight. It was Cintron's first fight back after right hand surgery and nine months of inactivity.
On April 19, 2006 under new manager/trainer Emanuel Steward's watch Kermit Cintron beat David Estrada by way of 10th round TKO. ESPN declared the bout an instant classic and candidate for Fight of the Year.
In Cintron's first IBF welterweight title defense on July 14, 2007 Cintron destroyed Walter Matthysse early in round two by KO. Emmanuel Steward, Cintron's trainer wasn't surprised the fight at Broadwalk Hall in Altantic City ended so quick. Cintron claimed the vacant IBF welterweight title in a vicious fight where he beat Mark Suarez by a 5th round TKO.
Then on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Cintron won a hard fought fight against Jesse Feliciano on the Vargas vs Mayorga undercard. Referee Jon Schorle stopped the bout at 1:53 of the 10th round with Feliciano getting a late pummeling. It was Cintron's second successful IBF welterweight title defense.

Cintron beat Lovemore N'dou (46-11-1, 31 KOs) by 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee. The IBF welterweight title eliminator fight took place on the Taylor vs Lacy card. The judges scores were 117-110, 117-111 and 115-112.
On Saturday, February 14, 2009 at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, Kermit Cintron fought to a controversial majority draw against Sergio Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs) in an interim WBC light middleweight title fight. The judge's scores were 113-113, 113-113 and 110-116. There was confusion at the end of round seven. Martinez thought that Cintron had been counted out but apparently Cintron's knees and gloves were off the canvas before the count of 10. It took several minutes for the ring to be cleared for the fight to continue. In round twelve Martinez lost a point for hitting Cintron on the back of the head.
Cintron in an upset beat Alfredo Angulo (15-1-0, 12 KOs) who represented Mexico in the 2004 Olympic in Athens by 12-round unanimous decision on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Scores were 116-112, 116-112 and 116-112. Resurrecting his career in this WBC 154 lb eliminator, Cintron, a 3 to 1 underdog fought better than he had in previous fights since losing to Antonio Margarito in April 2008.
Kermit Cintron lost by 4th round split decision to Paul Williams (39-1-0, 27 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round light middleweight bout on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Cintron fell headfirst out of the ring when he tripped over Williams who fell as he clinched Cintron. Cintron hit the ring edge, ringside table and monitor during his fall before landing on the floor. The ringside doctor would not allow Cintron to continue and he was taken out of the arena on a stretcher to the hospital.
The California State Athletic Commission's boxing rules allow a TECHNICAL DECISION to be rendered as long as the 4th round has begun. The Association of Boxing Commissions Unified Rules which most states follow declare the fight a NO DECISION if it is stopped before four rounds have been completed. The judges ringside scored the fight 40-36 for Cintron and 40-36 and 39-37 for Williams. How two of the judges could have had Williams winning the bout is unbelievable and so is any judge scoring the 4th round anything other than even when it only lasted 30 seconds. Cintron's promoter Lou DiBella plans to file a protest with the California State Athletic Commission to get the decision declared a NO CONTEST or NO DECISION as it should be.
Cintron lost to Mexican Carlos Molina (19-4-2, 6 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision in a 152 lb catch weight bout on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Scores were 92-98, 92-98 and 92-98. Getting hit by Molina's right hand Cintron's ring rust was obvious having not fought since his bizzare technical decision loss to Paul Williams in May 2010 when he fell out of the ring in the 4th round and couldn't continue.
On August 12, 2011 on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights at the Ameristar Casino in Saint Charles, Missouri, Cintron defeated Antwone Smith (20-3-1, 12 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision. Scores were 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94. Fighting at a catch weight of 150 lbs and struggling to make weight Cintron plans to move up to light middleweight (154 lbs).
