Kassim "The Dream" Ouma
Kassim Ouma from Ugandan defected to America while on tour with the Ugandan national amateur boxing team. Ouma had been kidnapped when he was a child in Uganda and trained as a solider prior to boxing. Ouma has an excellent chin and a trademark busy style of fighting. Ouma is a steady, pressure fighter who delivers volumes punches in a relentless and robotic fashion.
Kassim Ouma beat Verno Phillips by unanimous decision on October 2, 2004 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada capturing the IBF light middleweight title. On January 29, 2005 Ouma successfully defended his title for the first time beating Kofi Jantuah by a 12 round unanimous decision. On July 14, 2005 at the Orleans Casino in Las Vegas in Ouma's second defense he lost his title to Roman Karmazin by a 12 round unanimous decision.
After his loss to Karmazin, Kassim Ouma went on to win four fights in a row including a victory on August 5, 2006 over undefeated Sechew Powell former national Golden Gloves light middleweight champion. Then Ouma moved up to middleweight and lost to Jermain Taylor by a 12-round unanimous decision on December 9, 2006 in Taylor's hometown of Little Rock Arkansas. Ouma fought the fight of his fight, aggressively backing the bigger, stronger Taylor up, bulling him around the ring and peppering him with punches.
Kassim Ouma moved back down to light middleweight after a planned bout with Sergio Mora fell thru and suffering a loss to Jermain Taylor to fight Saul Roman on November 2, 2007 at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California. Kassim Ouma lost to former Contender contestant Cornelius Bundrage by a 10-round unanimous decision on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Seneca Allegheny Casino in Salamanca, New York on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. It was an ugly fight to watch because of Bundrage's excessive holding and clinches. Referee Steve Smoger took a point away from Bundrage for holding after several warnings but even that didn't stop the limited fighter Bundrage from doing it.
Ouma once known for his running combinations and fast paced fights hasn't been the same since his loss to Jermain Taylor in December 2006. The Ouma that fought Bundrage on Friday night didn't resemble the Ouma who used to throw over a hundred punches a round and moved forward like a tank impervious to blows. Ouma only fought once in 2007 so is it ring rust or has he lost his desire to box?
