Pacquiao vs Marquez Round 1

Juan's most notable fight was against Manny Pacquiao on May 8, 2004 that ended in a controversial draw. Marquez was knocked down three times in the 1st round. Prior to the ABC's Unified Boxing Rules it used to be a three-knockdown round was scored 10-7. Judge Burt Clements was unaware that he could score a round 10-6. He thought the Nevada Athletic Commission did not want its judges to score a round 10-6. Judge John Stewart called the fight 115-110 for Pacquiao, Guy Jutras called it 115-110 for Marquez. Clements scored the fight 113-113 making it a draw. The Pacquiao-Marquez scorecard showed that had Clements scored the first round 10-6 Pacquiao would have won. The commission said there is no rule that covered the situation and no grounds for a protest because it was a judgement call. Marquez retained his unified titles.

Juan Manuel Marquez in his first WBO featherweight title defense fought a frantic paced fight thru a mask of blood from three heatbutts beating Jimrex Jaca with an impressive 9th round KO at Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas on November 25, 2006. The bout has already been earmarked as "Fight of the Year". Although emerging victorious Marquez said after the bout that he wanted a rematch.

Juan Manuel Marquez made a successful 1st defense of his WBC super featherweight title winning a 12-round unanimous decision over Rocky Juarez at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tucson, Arizona on November 3, 2007. Marquez, controlling the entire bout used his jab to keep Juarez on the outside for the first half and his right to target Juarez's head the later half, snapping it back several times in the 11th round. The Marquez-Juarez fight was a matchup made after a rematch with Barrera didn't pan out and Marquez's named opponent Jorge Barrios had to withdraw because of retina tears in both eyes. With this win Marquez now wants a fight with Pacquiao whom he fought to a draw 3 1/2 years ago.

Juan Manuel Marquez lost to Manny Pacquiao by 12-round split decision on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
