Joel Casamayor lost to Robert Guerrero (27-1-1, 18 KOs) by 10-round unanimous decision in a light welterweight bout on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scores were 89-98, 89-98 and 90-97. Casamayor was rocked and downed in round two and also lost a point for holding. In round ten Casamayor send Guerrero to the canvas with right hand. The bout took place on the HBO PPV undercard of Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz II promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Marquez Boxing Promotions.

Joel "El Cepillo" Casamayor
Joel Casamayor, a member of the Cuban boxing team likely to win metals in the 1996 Summer Olympics defected from Cuba's training camp in Guadalajara, Mexico just weeks before the games started in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to defecting to the United States, while fighting for Cuba, Casamayor had won a bantamweight gold metal in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
In 1999, three years after making his pro debut, Joel Casamayor won his first titles, the NABF super featherweight title and WBA super featherweight interim title. In 2000, Casamayor became the first US Cuban defector to win a world title beating Jong-Kwon Baek by a 5th round TKO capturing the WBA super featherweight title. In 2002, Casamayor suffered his first professional defeat losing his WBA super featherweight title by a 12-round unanimous decision to WBO super featherweight champion Acelino Freitas.
Corrales-Casamayor trilogy: On October 4, 2003 Joel Casamayor, beat Diego Corrales by a 6th TKO winning the IBA super featherweight title. In a rubber match on March 6, 2004, Casamayor lost the IBA super featherweight title to Corrales by a 12-round split decision. On October 7, 2006, in the final bout of their triology, Casamayor beat Corrales by a 12-round split decision winning the WBC lightweight title.
Joel Casamayor retained his WBC interim lightweight title by winning a controversial 12-round split decision over Jose Armando Santa Cruz on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Madison Square Garden on the Mosley-Cotto undercard. Casamayor was knocked down by a counter in round one, did a lot of holding and was outhustled and outworked by Santa Cruz who pressed the action throughout the bout. The crowd booed the decision. ESPN, ringside press and HBO's unofficial judge, Harold Lederman all had Santa Cruz winning overwhelmingly.
Joel Casamayor and the tale of the WBC lightweight title: Joel Casamayor captured the title from the late Diego Corrales in their rubber match on October 7, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Then Casamayor was stripped of the title on February 1, 2007 by the WBC for discussing a possible rematch with WBO lightweight title holder Acelino Freias. The title was then given to David Diaz who had beaten Jose Armando Santa Cruz by TKO on August 12, 2006 in a interim WBC lightweight title fight. The WBC then gave Casamayor back the interim title prior to his fight with Jose Armando Santa Cruz in November 2007. After winning a very controversial decision against Santa Cruz, Casamayor was again stripped of the WBC interim title because he fought Michael Katsidis instead of giving Jose Armando Santa Cruz a mandated rematch.
Joel Casamayor beat the previously undefeated Michael Katsidis (23-1-0, 20 KOs) by 10th round TKO on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California. Casamayor knocked down Katsidis twice in round one. In round six Katsidis knocked Casamayor out of the ring. In round ten Casamayor knocked down Katsidis with a left hook and finished him off with a barrage of punches. At the time of the stoppage Casamayor was behind on two of the judge's scorecards through round nine. Along with his win Casamayor became the WBO lightweight interim title holder.
On Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada Joel Casamayor lost to Juan Manuel Marquez (49-4-1, 36 KOs) by TKO in round eleven. Casamayor's left hand repeatedly from home on Marquez's chin but it was Marquez's right that determined the outcome of the fight. It was the first time Casamayor has been stopped.
Joel Casamayor beat Jason Davis (11-5-1, 3 KOs) by 8-round unanimous decision on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Casamayor took control of the fight in the 6th round and dominated it until the finish. The judges scores were 79-73, 79-73 and 79-73. The PPV fight card dubbed Road to Redemption promoted by Fernando Vargas of Vargas Entertainment and Ronald Johnson of American Dream Productions also headlined Zab Judah.
