Jesus Chavez quit on his stool at the end of round four due to a left shoulder injury in a scheduled 10-round lightweight bout against Jorge Linares (30-1-0, 19 KOs) on Sunday, October 24, 2010 Kokugikan, Tokyo, Japan. Chavez, former junior lightweight and lightweight champion has now lost four fights in a row, granted the loses came against noteworthy fighters Humberto Soto, David Diaz, Michael Katsidis and now Jorge Linares. Retirement is on the horizon.

Jesus Chavez is trained by hall of fame trainer, Ronnie Shields. On Saturday, September 17, 2005 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jesus Chavez beat Leavander Johnson by 11th round TKO. Johnson collasped after the fight in his dressing room and was taken to the University Medical Center where he underwent emergency brain surgery for a subdural hematoma. Johnson died five days later as a result of traumatic brain injury.

On Saturday, February 3, 2007, over 16 months after his fight with Johnson, Jesus Chavez stepped into the ring to fight Julio Diaz. The fight ended abruptly in round three after Chavez collasped on the canvas with a blown out right knee. Since 2005, Chavez has suffered numerous physical injuries in addition to the psychological toll Leavander Johnson's death had on him. Although his manager Lou Mesorano says Chavez is anxious to fight one begins to wonder.

Jesus Chavez took the fight to Daniel Jimenez beating him by 10-round unanimous decision on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, California. After a 14 month layoff still guarding an injured knee it took a few rounds for Chavez to shake off the ring rust but rounds three and four were his and in round seven Chavez nailed Jimenez with a solid right to the chin.

On Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, Jesus Chavez beat Andres Ledesma (14-11-1, 9 KOs) by 9th round KO. Chavez dropped Ledesma in round seven and finished him off in round nine. The fight took place on the Diaz vs Katsidis undercard. This was Chavez's second win since his ill fated fight with Leavander Johnson on September 17, 2005.

Chavez lost a 12-round lightweight fight by 7th round RTD against Greek boxer Michael Katsidis (25-2-0, 21 KOs) from Australia on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The fight promoted by Golden Boy Promotions took place on the Valero vs Pitalua undercard. Katsidis took control of the fight after Chavez suffered a hairline gash from an accidental clash of heads in round four. By the end of round seven Chavez bothered by the bleeding cut was absorbing too punches and his corner stopped the fight.

In his next fight Chavez lost a 10-round majority decision to former lightweight champion David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KOs) in a lightweight fight on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Scores were 93-97, 94-96 and 95-95. This was Chavez's first time fighting in Chicago where he was raised.

In a classic Mexican brawl Jesus Chavez former super featherweight and lightweight champion fought aggressively but lost to Humberto Soto (50-7-2, 32 KOs) by 10th round unanimous decision at the Arena Itson in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Chavez was down in round one from a flash knockout. In round five Chavez lost a point for throwing Soto through the ropes. Then in round six Chavez lost another point for a low blow. Scores were 87-100, 87-100 and 87-100.
