Israel Vazquez lost by 3rd round TKO to Rafael Marquez (39-5-0, 35 KOs) on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. A cut opened up over Vazquez's left eye early in the fight by a punch and then was exacerbated by a headbutt in round three bleeding profusely. Vazquez was down in round three then getting pummeled with punches by Marquez when referee Raul Caiz Jr stopped the bout at 1:33. This was the fourth time Vazquez and Marquez met each other in the ring. Vazquez suffered a broken nose in their first fight and was unable to continue losing by 7th round RTD. In their second fight Vazquez won by 6th round TKO and by 12-round split decision in their third fight. Vazquez-Marquez IV was contested at featherweight and nationally televised on Showtime.

Israel "Magnifico" Vazquez
Israel Vazquez, WBC world super bantamweight champion is an aggressive boxer with good boxing skills and punching power. He became the 100th Mexican champion with his first world title on March 25, 2004 when he fought Jose Luis Valbuena and won the vacant IBF super bantamweight title in a 12 round TKO at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Vazquez, Ring Magazine champion, made his mark when he beat 3 to 1 favorite Oscar Larios by a 3rd round TKO on December 3, 2005 at Mandalay Bay, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a short right hook that caused a fight stopping large cut over Larios left eye. Larios was also down in the 1st round.
Vazquez defended his WBC super bantamweight title successfully on June 10, 2006 in Atlantic City stopping Ivan Hernandez in a 4th round RTD when Hernandez suffered a broken nose and could not continue.
Israel Vazquez beat Jhonny Gonzalez by a 10 round TKO on September 16, 2006 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the undercard of Barrera vs Juarez II. Gonzalez was down in the 7th and 10th rounds. Gonzalez's corner threw in the towel after he was down for the second time. Vazquez retains his WBC super bantamweight title. Vazquez had been knocked down twice during the bout but was able to come back and win the fight whereas Gonzalez wasn't able to.
Vazquez lost to Rafael Marquez by a 7th round TKO due to a broken nose suffered in round one of their closely fought fight on March 3, 2007. Vazquez had dropped Marquez with a left hook in round three. The two traded heavy leather round after round until Vazquez retired on his stool after round seven not able to breath.
On August 4, 2007 at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas Vazquez regained his WBC super bantamweight title by a 6th round TKO in a bloody rematch with Rafael Marquez. In a fight was reminiscent of Castillo and Corrales the two started out right where they left off on March 3, 2007 trading leather back and forth at a furious pace. After sending Marquez to the canvas early in round six, Vazquez continued his attack landing a flurry of punches on Marquez before the referee stopped the bout at 1:16 of round six. It was sweet revenge for Vazquez as he proved to be the better fighter this time around. Marquez complained of an early stoppage.
Vazquez beat Rafael Marquez by a 12-round split decision in one of boxing's greatest trilogies on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Home Depo Center in Carson, California. In a fight that was as furious as their first two meetings the two Mexican warriors traded leather in back and forth action with the tides changing for 12 brutal rounds with Vazquez landing the harder blows and Marquez landing the higher volume. Vazquez came out like a man possessed in round twelve hurting Marquez in the final few seconds almost winning the fight by KO. Each fighter had won a fight, Marquez the first and Vazquez the second. But it was Vazquez who proved his paramountcy winning the third and final fight of their trilogy.
On Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Nokia Theatre in the LA Live complex in Los Angeles, California, Israel Vazquez beat Columbian Angel Antonio Priolo (30-7-0, 20 KOs) by 9th round TKO . The fight dubbed The Return was a special edition of Club Nokia, AEG and Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions monthly boxing series. Vazquez looked a bit rusty early on having not fought for almost 19 months due to a detached retina that required three surgeries but in the 9th round the old Vazquez came back and knocked down Priolo three times.
