Ike Quartey lost to Winky Wright by a 12-round unanimous decision at St Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida on December 2, 2006. Wright scored two questionable knockdowns over the durable Quartey but the first was also caused by the boxer's legs getting tangled up and the second Quartey's glove touched the top of his shoe not the floor. Wright appeared to be the busier fighter throwing a total of 1011 punches to Quartey's 642 but punchstats showed they each landed 27%. The scores came in at 117-110, 117-110 and 117-109 for Wright.

Ike "Bazooka" Quartey

Ike Quartey, the youngest of 27 childen, represented Ghana as a light welterweight boxer in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Quartey known for his Bazooka jab won the WBA welterweight title in 1994 successfully defending it seven times before vacating the title in 1998. After losing fights to Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas in 2000 Quartey retired for five years. In 2005 Quartey, returned to the ring winning fights against Clint McNeil, Verno Phillips and Carlos Bojorquez before losing a controversial decision to Vernon Forrest. For his efforts in 2005 Quartey was named The Ring magazine "Comeback of the Year" fighter.

Quartey-Forrest Decision

On August 5, 2006 at Madison Square Garden in New York, Ike Quartey got robbed losing a 10-round disputable unanimous decision to Vernon Forrest. Most of the crowd chanted bullshit and booed the decision after it was announced that Quartey lost. The judges scorecards read 95-94, 95-94 and 96-94 for Vernon Forrest. Harold Lederman's unofficial scorecard read 97-92 for Quartey. HBO's ringside commentators thought Quartery won the fight. Quartey has a history of coming up short in fights that go to the scorecards, including his disputed decision loss to Oscar De La Hoya and a draw with Jose Luis Lopez.
