Humberto Soto took the fight to Joan Guzman but lost the bout on November 17, 2007 by a 12-round unanimous decision at the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The quick punching evasive Guzman, trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr took flight to make it difficult for Soto to hit him. Soto, perhaps the hardest hitting Mexican fighter and long time sparring partner for Erik Morales hadn't lost a fight since 2002. Others ringside saw the Guzman-Soto fight different. Associated Press scored the bout a 114-114 draw. Harold Lederman saw it 115-113 Guzman. The judges had it 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111 for Guzman. Soto felt he did enough to win saying You win fights by throwing punches and not by running all night.
