Boxing at Foxwoods began in 1992 when the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe opened the Foxwoods Casino as a small addition to their existing bingo operation. The first fight held on the Mashantucket Pequot Indian reservation was on April 23, 1992 promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank and televised on ESPN. The fight card headlined heavyweight Tommy "The Duke" Morrison in a 10-round bout with Kimmuel Odum.
Fifteen years later on April 28, 2007 Foxwoods Resort Casino celebrated its 100th fight card with lightweight champion Acelino "Popo" Freitas fighting Juan "Baby Bull" Diaz. Looking forward to hosting more major fights in the future, Foxwoods opened a new 4,000 seat arena as part of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods which can be reconfigured for boxing. »
