Ringside Las Vegas: On November 4, 2006 at Mandalay Bay in Los Vegas, Floyd Mayweather Jr won a 12 round unanimous decision over Carlos Manuel Baldomir and his welterweight title. Mayweather boxed defensively staying on the outside and avoided mixing it up with the heavy handed Carlos Baldomir. Not going for a knockout Mayweather did only what he needed to do to win the decision. Fans unimpressed by Mayweathers timid fighting style and tired of watching Mayweather running away from Baldomir round after round booed him and left the fight early. At a post-fight press conference Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing.

The judges scores were 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110. Mayweather looked like he was on the verge of going down in round two after being hit by a couple of big right hands from Mosley but he held on until he cleared his head. On Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mayweather Jr KO'd Victor Ortiz (29-3-1, 22 KOs) by sucker punch at 2:59 of round four in a WBC welterweight title fight. In round four Ortiz headbutted Mayweather which prompted referee Joe Cortez to stop the fight and penalize Ortiz one point. After the break Ortiz approached Mayweather in the center of the ring to hug him and apologize but Mayweather sucker punched him instead and knocked him out. The punch was not illegal because referee Joe Cortez had just signalled the time keeper to restart the clock but his back was to the fighters and he did not look at both fighters and say "fight" or "box on". Ortiz not realizing that the break was over and that the fight was back on got blindsided as Mayweather broke too quickly. It was a cheap shot by Mayweather and unsportsmanlike but legal.
