Fantasy Springs Boxing

Fantasy Springs was a major player in boxing back in the 1990s and early 2000s. At its peak Fantasy Springs Casino hosted up to eight fights a year promoted by a variety of boxing promoters including Bob Arum, Don King, Cedric Kushner, Don Chargin, Matt Tinley and Patrick Ortiz. Fight cards included world champion boxers such as Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Marco Antonio Barrera, Diego Corrales, Antonio Margarito, Israel Vazquez and local crowd pleaser Antonio Diaz of Cochella who fought regularly at the Fantasy Springs Casino.

Boxing returned after a four year drought to Fantasy Springs on October 15, 2010 with a near sellout crowd who came to see local area fighters such as Randy Caballero of Coachella step into the square ring on TeleFutura's Solo Boxeo Tecate fight card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. The desire of Fantasy Springs and the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians to put boxing back on the map in Palm Springs promises regular fights at the casino.

Fantasy Springs Boxing (continued)

Ruelas vs Nelson Fantasy Springs December 1, 1995.Fantasy Springs has a notable boxing history. Boxrec has recorded 38 fights being held at Fantasy Springs Casino from 1991 through 2006. Some notable fight cards include the Gabriel Ruelas vs Azumah Nelson rematch on December 1, 1995, a 13 bout fight card held on December 7, 1996 and the first all female fight card held on May 17, 1997.

Fights at Fantasy Springs used to be held outdoors in 115 degrees heat to 30 degrees cold. Now days fights are held indoors at Fantasy Springs Special Events Center which was built in 2004. The arena with a seating capacity of 1,550 is a great place to see a fight. It's small enough that anywhere you sit you have a good view of the boxing ring and the fighters.

Fantasy Springs Casino also shows PPV fights at its LIT lounge on oversized LCD flat screen TVs and giant drop-down projection screens. There are plenty of comfortable chairs as well as seating at the bar. There is no cover charge unless otherwise posted.
