Mijares schooled Arce for 12 rounds repeatedly landing counter punch combinations demolishing Arce. The scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 117-111 for Mijares in his successful WBC super flyweight title defense.

Fighting at the first time at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, February 16, 2008 on the Pavlik-Taylor undercard Mijares beat Jose Navarro (26-4-0, 12 KOs) by 12-round split decision successfuly defending his WBC super flyweight title. The judge's scorecards read 117-111, 115-113 for Mijares and 108-120 for Navarro.

Cristian Mijares beat Venezuelan Alexander Munoz (32-3-0, 27 KOs) by 12-round split decision on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Auditorio Centenario in Durango, Mexico. Scores were 116-111, 116-112 for Mijares and 113-115 for Munoz. Mijares retained his WBC super flyweight title and captured the WBA super flyweight title in addition to his victory.

Cristian Mijares fought and beat Chatchai Sasakul (64-4-0, 39 KOs) from Thailand by 3rd round TKO on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at the Arena Monterrey in Mexico. Sasakul, who lost his flyweight title to Manny Pacquiao in 1998 was down in rounds two and three. In addition to his victory Mijares retained his WBA and WBC super flyweight titles.

Cristian Mijares lost his WBA and WBC super flyweight titles in a unification bout to IBF super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (31-1-1, 25 KOs) by 9th round KO on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. In the fight televised live on Showtime, Mijares seemed baffled by fellow southpaw Darchinyan's unorthodox style. Mijares was knocked down in round one from a left upper cut and again in round nine by a straight left. The referee stopped the fight at the count of 7 as doctors rushed into the ring. At the time of stoppage Mijares was behind with scores of 72-79, 72-79 and 72-79 after eight rounds.

The score cards read 117-111 for Mijares and 116-112 and 115-113 for Cermeno. It was Mijares debut at bantamweight where his lack of punching power was a problem.
