Cory Spinks Tickets

Cory Spinks lost (112-116, 113-115 and 115-113) in an upset bout to veteran Verno Phillips by a 12-round split decision on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. Spinks with his good defense and speed outboxed Phillips the entire fight. Phillips was the aggressor, landed the harder punches and had a good 7th round but very saw him the winner. Phillips on a four fight winning streak since losing to Ike Quartey and Kassim Ouma took home the IBF light middleweight title. Spinks drops to 36-5.

In Spinks' previous fight he lost to middleweight Jermain Taylor by a 12-round split decision at the FedEx Forum in Memphis on May 19, 2007 in a lackluster bout. Spinks spent the majority of that fight running away from Taylor while Taylor looked for the knockout punch. Although Spinks threw more punches than Taylor he only connected on 16 percent.

Cory Spinks won the Ring magazine welterweight championship of the world December 13, 2003 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City when he beat Ricardo Mayorga by 12 round majority decision. In his first defense of his title, on April 10, 2004 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Spinks beat Zab Judah by a 12 unanimous decision retaining his IBF, WBA & WBC Welterweight titles.

On February 5, 2005 at Savvis Center in St Louis Spinks met Judah again. This time Zab Judah beat Cory Spinks by a 9th round TKO becoming the undisputed Welterweight champion. Spinks didn't fight again for another 17 months. When he returned to the ring he fought Roman Karmazin winning a controversial 12-round majority decision. Many thought the fight should have resulted in a draw.

Spinks in his previous uneventful fight outboxed mandatory challenger Rodney Jones on February 3, 2007 winning a 12-round unanimous decision. Spinks retains his IBF light middleweight title that he captured from Roman Karmazin in a hometown decision on July 8, 2006.
