Christy Martin the Coalminer's Daughter lost by 6th round TKO to Dakota Stone (10-8-5, 2 KOs) in their rematch on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. In an all war Martin broke her right hand in round four after dropping Stone with a hard right. Unable to use her right hand Martin continued to fight one handed. In round six on the advice of the ring doctor referee David Mendoza called an end to the bout at 1:09. Stone wins by technical knockout although at the time of stoppage Martin was ahead on all three judges scorecards. Martin had surgery on her fractured right hand on Sunday, June 5th in LA. Next up for Martin is a 10-round light middleweight title fight against Mia St John (46-11-2, 18 KOs) for the vacant WBC female light middleweight title on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, California. St John has not fought since October 2010 when she defeated Tammy Franks by unanimous decision.

Christy Martin should be given credit for blazing the trail for worldwide acceptance of womens boxing. Women's boxing icon, Christy Martin is a brawler who comes to fight. She has been fighting for 17 years now. In 1989 Christy Martin stepped into the ring with Angela Buchanan. The fight ended in a draw. Three weeks later she and Buchanan fought again. This time Christy won by knocking out Buchanan in the 2nd round.

Christy Martin bloody nose from GogartyIn 1996 during a fight with Irish featherweight Deirdre Gogarty, Martin was given a bloody nose by Gogarty which caught the media's attention. The Gogarty vs Martin fight, on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs Frank Bruno was seen in 30 million homes and 100 countries. It was the highlight of the fight card. Christy won by unanimous decision and earned recognition as the WBC nominal womens lightweight champion of the world.

Christy Martin lost to Laila Ali by 4th round KO on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi. Martin fought her heart out but Laila at 5' 10" with a 70" reach was just too big for the 5' 4 1/2" Martin.

Martin fought and beat Amy Yuratovac (5-1-0, 5 KOs) by a 6-round unanimous decision on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the L'Auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Hard solid punching by Martin who was coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss to welterweight Angelica Martinez (9-2-1, 1 KO) on October 6, 2006 after not fighting since her loss to Holly Holm in 2005.

Christy Martin fought to a draw over eight rounds with Valerie "The Wolfe" Mahfood (19-14-4, 9 KOs) in an NABF Championship fight on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Reliant Arena in Houston, Texas. The crowd booed the decision. Martin and Manford went toe-to-toe trading leather from the opening to final bell. Martin landed a right in the eighth round that wobbled Manford and had her on shaky legs but Manford dug deep and stayed in the fight. Although Manford was the aggressor Martin landed the bigger more effective punches.

Martin, a sure inductee into the IBHOF wants to add three more wins to her boxing record before calling it a career. In her bout with Manford, Martin showed she still has plenty left in her tank!

Christy Martin beat Cimberly Harris (5-14-0, 0 KOs) by 6-round split decision on Saturday, August 1, 2009 and Dakota Stone (9-8-5, 1 KOs) by 10-round majority decision on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. In addition to her victory over Stone, Martin, also won the WBC women's light middleweight title making her the oldest female boxer to win a world championship.

Christy Martin was stabbed and shot by husband James Martin on November 23, 2010 after she told him that she was leaving him for a woman that was a longtime friend with whom she was now in a romantic relationship. Christy managed to get away during the violent attack and ran into the street flagging down a motorist who took her to a local hospital. She had been shot in her chest (the bullet still remains lodged in her back), stabbed deeply in the chest multiple times and severly in her left leg down to the bone, had been pistol whipped and had her head bashed in.

On the run James Martin was found hiding in a shed by deputies on November 30th. Initally he refused to surrender but later emerged with a welding a bloody knife and suffering from self-inflicted wounds from knifing himself. He now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He has been denied bail and is to remain in jail until the trial in May. Christy has hired attorney Gloria Allred to represent her and has already filed for divorce. Note: On Friday, April 27, 2012 a jury found Jim Martin guilty of attempted second-degree murder. He faces more than 25 years in prison.
