Carlos Quintana lost by 8th round TKO to Andre Berto (26-0-0, 20 KOs) on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. Quintana had a good first round knocking Berto down but the referee ruled it a slip. Berto kept complaining about Quintana hitting him in the back of the head but replays didn't support it. Referee Tommy Kimmons seemed to have it out for Quintana and took a point away from him for hitting Berto on the back the head in round three. Quintana got nailed with a barrage of punches in round eight prompting the referee to stop the fight at 2:16.

Carlos "El Indio" Quintana

(27-3-0, 21 KOs)

Carlos Quintana, a southpaw and former member of the 1996 Puerto Rico Olympic team has had a very impressive amateur career winning 62 out of 70 bouts with 48 by way of knockout.

Carlos Quintana made his Las Vegas debut on August 12, 2000 on the undercard of the Evander Holyfield vs John Ruiz fight. In front of a near sold-out crowd at the Paris Hotel and Casino Quintana pummeled his opponent Miguel Avila so badly in the 1st round that the referee waved off the fight.

On June 24, 2006 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Quintana gave the heavy handed previously undefeated Joel Julio a 12 round boxing lesson. Quintana won the WBA welterweight title eliminator fight by a 12 round unanimous decision paving the way for a title shot.

Quintana, in a WBA welterweight title fight with Miguel Angel Cotto on December 2, 2006 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City quit on his stool after round five. Hit by a hard left hook to the liver Quintana barely beat the count only to be bombarded by a barrage of punches delivered by Cotto and downed again. Almost unable to make it back to his corner Quintana was in no condition to continue the fight.

Almost 10 months later, on September 29, 2007 Quintana won a 4th round TKO victory over Christopher Henry in an undercard bout on the Pavlik-Taylor card. With this win Quintana is on his way to recovering what he lost to Cotto.

Williams vs Quintana

Carlos Quintana punished Paul Williams (33-1-0, 24 KOs) beating him by a 12-round unanimous decision capturing his WBO welterweight belt on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Pechanga Casino in Temecula, California.

Williams' 5 inch height advantage, his 10 inch reach advantage and the 18 pounds Williams gained after Friday's weighin were all negated by Quintana who unlocked the mystery of fighting "the most feared man in boxing." Quintana boxed beautifully slipping Williams punches and landing straight lefts to the right side of Williams' chin and head at will. Quintana, now having given boxing lessons to both Joel Julio and Paul Williams has redeemed himself of his one and only loss to Miguel Cotto.

On Saturday, June 6, 2008 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, Quintana lost his rematch against Paul Williams (34-1-0, 25 KOs) by 1st round TKO. Quintana, who was making his first WBO welterweight title defense was dropped twice in the first round. Referee Eddie Claudio stopped the bout at 2:15. Quintana stated "I got popped cold and he hit me in the back of the neck. That was what did it. That was overwhelming." The Quintana-Williams rematch was aired live on Showtime as a co-main event also headlining Vernon Forrest vs Sergio Mora.

Quintana beat journeyman Joshua Onyango (14-16-1, 11 KOs) by 4th round TKO at the Coliseo Manuel Petaca Iguina in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on Saturday, October 25, 2008. The bout took place at a catchweight of 152 lbs. It was Quintana's first fight since his loss to Paul Williams in their rematch June 2008.
