Carlos Manuel "Tata" Baldomir

(46-13-6, 14 KOs)

Carlos Manuel BaldomirCarlos Manuel Baldomir made his pro debut on February 19, 1993 in Santa Fe, Argentina. He has been trotting the globe as a professional journeyman boxer for the past 13 years racking up 58 fights. On January 07, 2006, at Madison Square Garden, Carlos Baldomir became boxing's Cinderella Man winning the WBC welterweight title in a unanimous decision victory from the reigning undisputed champ Zab Judah.

Carlos Baldomir is now the second boxer to win a world title from Santa Fe, Argentina, the hometown of legendary world middleweight champion, Carlos Monzon. Its not surprising that Baldomir's 84 year old trainer, Amilcar Brusa, was also Monzon's trainer and teacher.

In his first defense of his welterweight title on July 22, 2006 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Carlos Baldomir stopped Arturo Gatti, one of the most exciting boxers in history by a 9th round TKO. It became Carlos Baldomir's first million dollar payday at the of 35 years old.

Ringside Las Vegas: On November 04, 2006 Carlos Baldomir fought and lost his second welterweight title defense to Floyd Mayweather Jr at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although Baldomir was the busy fighter, advancing forward throughout the entire bout trying to knock Mayweather out he was unable land any meaningful blows. Mayweather was too quick for him. Mayweather spent most of the bout running away from Baldomir unwilling to mix it up with the heavy handed Baldomir.

Baldomir lost his WBC super welterweight championship fight with Vernon Forrest by a 12 round unanimous decision in front of a sellout crowd at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington on July 28, 2007. Forrest was the sharper of the two but Baldomir, known for his tough chin just kept moving forward like an indestructable tank impervious to any blows landed by Forrest. The late rounds were the closest. In round nine Baldomir caught Forrest with a good shot which got Forrest in trouble but Forrest retaliated with a low blow which got him a point deduction but bought him some time recover.

Carlos Baldomir, who has never been knocked was asked by Larry Merchant if he might retire after his loss to Forrest. Baldomir said I'm going to have to think about it very seriously. But this was probably my last fight. The 35 year old Baldomir had a good year in 2006. He beat Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti before fighting Mayweather. For his two upset wins Baldomir was awarded the 2006 World Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year.

Baldomir beat Luciano Perez by a close 10-round majority decision at Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cabazon, California on Friday, November 23, 2007. Although looking older and slower this bout, Baldomir hasn't lost his granite chin despite Perez's heavy handed punches. In the early rounds Perez dominated the fight, in the final rounds it was Baldomir, who ended up doing enough to get the decision.

Carlos Baldomir lost to Jackson Osei Bonsu (30-2-0, 23 KOs) by 12-round majority decision on Saturday, December 20, 2008 in Antwerpen, Belgium. In the WBC welterweight title eliminator Baldomir lost a point for a headbutt in round four and was down in round ten. The judges scores were 113-113, 113-114 and 112-114.
