Brian Viloria won an 8-round unanimous decision over Cesar Lopez on Saturday, February 16, 2008 in an undercard bout on the Pavlik-Taylor card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Viloria has fought two other fights since the Romero rematch on November 18, 2006 losing a very narrow 12-round majority decision to Edgar Sosa on April 14, 2007 and winning an 8-round unanimous decision victory over veteran Jose Garcia Bernal on January 4, 2008 whom he dropped in the 8th round.

Brian Viloria knows first hand that boxing is a dangerous sport that carries a high risk of serious injury. On May 28, 2005 Viloria fought Mexican flyweight Ruben Contreras at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Contreras quit in the 6th round complaining of a headache and suffered a seizure shortly there after. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to remove blood clots on his brain. Contreras lie comatose for weeks after surgery. After the fight, Viloria considered giving up his career but family and friends assured him that it wasn't his fault. Three months later at the Staples Center, Contreras sat ringside as Viloria beat Eric Ortiz by a 1st round KO. Moments after winning the title fight, Viloria handed Contreras a several thousand dollar check.

On August 10, 2006 Brian Viloria, previously undefeated, lost to Omar Nino Romero by a widely scored unanimous decision. What happened to Viloria is a fighters nightmare called not being abe to get off. Viloria in a rematch with Omar Nino Romero fighting for the WBC light flyweight title fight failed to avenge an earlier 2006 loss. Omar Nino Romero vs Brian Viloria II ended in a majority draw. The scores were 115-112 for Nino and 113-113 and 113-113. Nino down once in the 5th round and again in the 9th round. Then the Nevada Athletic Commission announced that Omar Nino tested positive for methamphetamine in his post-fight drug test. He has been suspended for nine months and fined $18,750. The Nevada Athletic Commission also voided the majority draw and called the bout a no-decision. The WBC stripped Nino Romero of the title.
