The Blue Horizon, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was practically synonymous with boxing. The Ring magazine, referred to as The Bible of Boxing voted it the number-one boxing venue in the world. Sports Illustrated noted it as the last boxing venue in the country. Locals say that The Blue was the best place to watch boxing in the country. Now as of October 2011 it is shuttered. Sold for a song due to mounting property taxes according to former co-owner Vernoca Michaels. It is said to become a hotel-restaurant as part of the city's Broad Street redevelopment plan.
